Coral Springs Florida Personal Injury Lawyer Asks, "Are the Pools That Your Family Swims in Safe?"

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is just around the corner and already there have been thirty-seven (37) drownings and thirty-eight (38) near drownings across the United States this year. To better proptect your rights and understand the potential liability issues in using a swimming pool there are several key issues to remember. Whether you are swimming in your own pool at home, a neighbor's pool, or a public pool operated by a hotel or resort, always keep your eyes on young children that are swimming. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision ("CPSC"), on average 385 children under the age of fifteen (15) die each year in pool and spa drownings.

In order to prevent these horrible incidents with your family or in a pool you are using, keep in mind the following and be vigilant:

- always supervise children around a pool

- make sure that there is a four-sided child fence surrounding the pool with a self closing latch

- enrool your children in swimming lessons to prevent incidents like the ones mentioned above

- know CPR to protect family and friends in an emergency

- keep glass bottles and sharp objects away from the pool

- use non-slip materials on surfaces in and around pools

- check for protrusing fasteners and bolts in and around your pool to prevent injury

- have safetry and rescue equipment available by your pool in case of emergency

There are other known dangers in pools to be aware of including an individual becoming entrapped by the powerful suction of a pool drain. according to the CPSC, in the last ten (10) years, there were ninety-four (94) deaths from pool, spa and whirlpool entrapments. The CPSC has also recently issued warnings to all residential and commercial pool owners to inspect pool drains and their covers to prevent against entrapment injuries and deaths.
