Coral Springs Injury Lawyer Urges Caution Using Fireworks This 4th of July

Independence Day is a time to celebrate with family, friends and neighbors. It is filled with beaches and pools, the sweet smell of barbeque and the laughter of kids. It is also the day for fireworks. Fireworks are a beautiful and fun way to enjoy a holiday. Complex litigation. They can also be dangerous, and must be used carefully. The lawyers at Citron & Bloom want everyone to enjoy and fun, safe and healthy 4th of July weekend.

Every year there are approximately 9,000 fireworks related injuries. Young people are often victims, with children under 15 accounting for 40 percent of those injuries and those under 20 suffering 58% of the injuries. Injuries range from severe and permanent burns to even death. Small or seemingly harmless fireworks cause many of these injuries, proving there are no harmless fireworks. Firecrackers cause an estimated 900 injuries and sparklers caused 800 more. Often, these injuries are caused by negligence and could have been avoided by following some simple tips. Here are some tips and information to help make next week a safe and memorable holiday weekend.

- Use fireworks outdoors only.

- Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal in your area, do not use them.

- Always have a hose and bucket of water handy.

- Only use fireworks as intended. Do not try to alter them in any way.

- Never re-light a "Dud" firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in water.

- Spectators must be kept a safe distance from the shooter.

- The shooter must always wear safety glasses.

- Always make sure matches and lighters are out of reach from children.

The consumption of alcohol is often a big part of 4th of July celebrations. Alcohol and fireworks DO NOT mix. The injury lawyers at Citron & Bloom encourage all groups to have a "Designated Shooter". In addition, more people are killed in car accidents during the 4th of July weekend than any other weekend of the year, including New Year's Eve. Nearly 500 people were killed in automobile accidents during that weekend in 2008. Countless others were injured in car accidents. NEVER drink and drive. One mistake can change lives forever.
